The art of brevity can be a challenge to master, but in this class, we will work together to keep your creative nonfiction short and sweet. You will be introduced to the four building blocks—or craft elements—needed for constructing short pieces. We'll reference works from top nonfiction writers, write, workshop, and revise our sketches, and discuss submission processes for two online literary journals dedicated to short forms.

This class is suitable for a wide variety of writers: fiction writers who’ve wondered about the truthiness of their flash fiction, poets who’ve wondered if their prose poems are really lyric essays, creative nonfiction writers who have wanted to dabble in poetry but aren’t quite ready, and writers of all ability levels interested in discussing and creating short nonfiction.

All classes listed on the Loft website take place in Central Standard Time (CST); make sure you understand your time zone, and adjust accordingly
