Negative (or blank or white) space is a poetic super-power. From end-stop to enjambment to letters staggered across a page or an offset line at the bottom of the page, poets sure understand how to work with the negative or blank space on the page. But do you want to know a secret? Prose writers have access to the same tools.

This class will examine how writers—prose and poet—use negative space, what the relationship is between blank space and story, and ponder how to wield this new magic in our own work. Whether you are a practicing poet looking to think deeper about this topic or a prose writer looking to enjoy some new spaces to breathe in your work, this class is for you.
