ClassBuilding Adventures and Playable Worlds
This class is designed to give those wishing to spend a week of their summer immersing themselves into fantastic worlds something that they can bring home to friends, family, and fellow wizards. We will take students to faraway lands populated with diverse casts of characters, magic, and monsters where we will ask them to take a step back and observe how even each pebble can be a catalyst of action. Students can expect to look at print-outs from the Player's Handbook, Monster Manual, and Dungeon Master's Guide.
Most class time will be devoted to understanding mechanics in popular tabletop Role-Playing Games, and how students can use these guidelines to manifest worlds of their own. A heavy focus on exposition, character building, and setting will allow even the most novice of adventurers the tools to create temporal landscapes of which even George R.R. Martin would be jealous.
Each day in class, we will showcase a few aspects of worldbuilding students can use to create their own adventures, all the while referencing influential popular fantasy and science fiction genre classics. Students will have written characters, environments, and monsters, for an adventure requiring only paper, pencil, and an imagination.
