ClassBuilding a Novel: Plot Development
Creating a novel can be daunting, but this class breaks down the steps of plot development to jump-start your writing process.
The best stories contain some kind of tension or conflict, either within the main character, between two or more characters, or between worlds and cultural ideas. Exercises in class will help you create your story arc, a series of gradually intensifying events leading to a climax that changes the character(s) or the world(s). We’ll also consider the role of subplots and different types of conflicts and resolutions. You will leave this class with a solid understanding of what makes a good plot and an outline of major plot developments in your own novel.
This class can be taken alone or as part of a series of three Building a Novel classes, including Characters & Point of View and Setting & Scenes.
