ClassChildren's Books, Comics, and Cartoons: An Introduction to Illustration and Visual Storytelling
Jump into the joyful experience of illustrating children’s picture books and graphic novels with national award-winning designer and illustrator Aurora Whittet Best as she demonstrates her approach to visual storytelling through stylistic inspiration, character development, and storyboarding.
This fun week long class lays out the foundation of becoming a cartoonist and illustrator for work or play. We’ll explore the history of cartoons in comic books, comic strips, book illustrations, and many others. Learn about different mediums and techniques to find your individual style. We will also work to overcome your own obstacles and fears as we put it all together with text in a supportive environment.
For this class you will need blank paper, pencil, black marker, and any type of color medium (marker, colored, pencil, crayon, etc). You are welcome to use additional mediums or art supplies you already have, but they are not required.
