Do you remember the books that allowed you to choose which page you turned to next, the “Choose Your Own Adventure” books by such authors as R.A. Montgomery, Shannon Gilligan, and Jim Wallace? Remember how you as the reader felt you had some control over the story? Each time you read the book and made a different choice, the story was different? Now is your chance to write this kind of fiction!

First, we’ll start off with some basics about fiction: realistic vs “out-of-this-world.” Then we’ll differentiate between picture books, middle grade fiction, and young adults. Next, we’ll explore some of the classic “Choose Your Own Adventure,” as well as new series and the teaching artist’s “Choose Your Path” books. The next step will be to write your own. This class is best suited for anyone with some writing experience who is interested in writing middle grade fiction with a “choose” twist. There is no class November 26.
