Brick by Brick: How To Build A Novel
Writing is NOT an art. When done well it might rise to a form of art, but first comes craft. If you want to write a novel, first you must master the basics—plot, conflict, character development, setting, dialogue, voice, point-of view. That's what this course will teach you.

To preserve family history manuscripts (letters, diaries, journals, etc.) written by earlier generations for their descendants and/or for historical archives, we will focus on transcribing, editing, annotating, introducing, and publishing them, helping newcomers initiate projects and enhancing the further development of projects already underway through class workshops and individual mentoring.

Be Bold! Be Bold! Breaking the “Rules” of Literary Fiction
Many of us have internalized expectations about what “real” literary fiction is: it’s realistic, focuses on character development; moves in a cause-and-effect way, with rising action, turning point, etc. In this class, we’ll read and discuss published work that breaks those “rules,” and we’ll generate our own rule-bending stories.
