Free Range: Poetry Prompts Found with Your Cell Phone's Camera
Out and about this summer, but still want to draft poems? Don't let your summer poems get away! We'll write on-the-go poems—poems found in the heart of your stay-cation or your getaway—using prompts and material gathered with your cell phone's camera.
Each week you'll be given brief instructions for your next photo safari, and a writing prompt based on the photo you find, along with 1-2 model poems to help nudge inspiration along, in the hopes of generating 7-8 poem drafts in the course of the session. We'll have optional weekly hour chat check-ins, and you'll receive opportunities to share work written from the prompts on the weekly discussion boards for light feedback and encouragement. You'll also be invited to share the pictures of your photo-prompt response every week.
This class is designed to give poets of any level food for thought, and help you capture poem fodder in the moment, so you're ready to write whether you've got daily time to devote, or a hectic schedule of family travel. By then end of class you'll have several fresh drafts, along with new strategies for using your cell phone to keep your muse close.
No class the week of July 4.
