Freeing the Novel Within
Do you want to free the novel within you? Do you have an idea for a novel in your mind but you don't know where to begin? Even if you haven't yet written a page and have no experience, this summer is the perfect time to begin the novel you've always dreamed of writing.
We will talk about the practice of writing, and how to set small, achievable goals. We will explore basic tools of writing, including how to make a simple outline as a guide. We will then talk about important elements of novel writing: characters, plot, point of view and setting.
By the end of the class, you will slowly but steadily have written the first 10,000 words, and you will start to feel up to the challenge of continuing to reach your goal. You will also get suggestions from the teaching artist and other members of the class in a supportive, non-critical environment.
The class is designed for writers starting out as well as those who have already begun who would like would like to give and get encouragement from a writing community.
The class will fit writers of any genre and age category.
