ClassHow to Critique a Picture Book
Critiquing a story can take the same amount of skill as it takes to write one. Sometimes, you want to ask a big question; other times call for smaller questions. In this class, students will look at published and unpublished picture book manuscripts before critiquing their own stories. Students will also learn how to set up a successful critique group. This class is best suited to those writing in the genre of fiction.
Please bring a picture book manuscript that is 800 words or fewer to class. Students can also submit a picture book manuscript that is 800 words or fewer to the teaching artist BEFORE the class for a brief critique. If a submitted manuscript fits the curriculum, the teaching artist will use the manuscript as an example in the workshop (anonymously, unless a student chooses otherwise).
*If you choose to submit your picture book before class, please email it directly to the teaching artist at email@example.com by 5 p.m. CT on Friday, November 5, 2021. We regret that late submissions will not be accepted, but you can bring it to class. Digital submissions only please; manuscripts dropped off at the Loft can not be accepted. Please submit as a word doc, google doc, or PDF only; other formats can not be accepted.
