This class is for those who already have a body of work and are unsure how to proceed: to refine and shape an episode or event you have been working on into something of short-story length or pull together drafts of various pieces that might become a book.

Whether you have a little or a lot of material, short snippets, or chapter-length pieces, we will take what you have, add to it, and begin shaping the disparate parts into a whole. We'll look closely at your process in this endeavor, drawing on structural ideas from longer published pieces in magazines and literary journals as well as contemporary book-length memoirs (provided by the instructor, on loan). There will be ample opportunity for supportive and constructive feedback from class members and the teaching artist, who will read up to 50 pages of your work.

Class will be approximately 50% presentation and discussion on craft, 40% workshopping-student work, and 10% writing exercises. Copy fee $10.
