ClassLet’s Get Writing! Introduction to Creative Writing
Do you want to write? Maybe you secretly write under the cover of night. Are you stuck and need some new ideas? This class is for you. Our goal will be to explore the world with a writer’s eye. Using short reading selections from diverse voices such as Lucille Clifton, Bao Phi, Louise Erdrich, Kiese Laymon, and more, we will discuss the “how to” and “why” of creative writing. And of course, we’ll start writing.
You’ll be astonished by the possibilities of your own imagination. There will be opportunities for workshopping writing and some feedback from the instructor. By the time this class finishes, you will have a collection of writing prompts you can use over and over to generate content and have fun with your imagination. You will maybe have a start on a story or even an idea for a novel. Most of all, you’ll get your feet wet—or back in the pool—and have fun putting words on the page and playing with the possibilities of your own creative writing practice.
About Loft Flex Classes
Flex Classes are completely online and asynchronous, meaning you can complete the course work on your own schedule. They do run week-to-week so a cohort of students can work together, but you can log in any time during the week. There are no live meetings to schedule around, so these classes are ideal for people with unpredictable schedules. Because you can sign on any time during the week to complete your tasks, and because there is no live video conferencing, they are also a good option for people with unreliable Internet access.
