This class deconstructs and demystifies the novel-writing process for struggling or aspiring writers. We'll go all the way from getting the nub of an idea to getting your book into the hands of expectant readers. Along the way, you'll learn how to stay organized, how to overcome your writing and marketing fears, the art of rewriting, and how to write in a voice not your own. By the end of our time together, you'll be prepared to begin work on a novel and will be equipped with the skills to perfect it.

Our goals include getting a birds-eye view of all the moving parts involved in the novel-writing process; learning how to tap into your creative subconscious to access the write-what-you-know details of your life that will inform your fiction; gaining practical skills for igniting your curiosity, enabling you to get out of your comfort zone and into the lives of people of other genders, cultures, and ages; and gaining practical rewriting, proof-reading, and copy-editing skills that will add depth, texture, detail, and professionalism to your manuscript. By the end of class, you'll have the confidence and encouragement to start—and complete—your novel.

Class will take place in a live meeting online, via Zoom, including ample time for in-class writing exercises and writing assignments to do between sessions.
