ClassOver the Transom: SF/F for Intermediate Writers
You're familiar with Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics, Clarke's Third Law, and the Rule of Three. You've been writing and submitting, but all you've gotten for your efforts is, "this didn't quite grab me, alas." You read all the recent SF/F magazines and you can't help but wonder, "Why that story instead of mine???"
This class is designed to help the intermediate writer break in and get published. We will tackle issues of craft such as revision and plot as well as the business aspects of networking and market research. We will go beyond sci-fi/fantasy 101 and delve deep. Students should have completed short stories and/or partial novels for class/instructor critique sessions.
Flex Classes are completely online and asynchronous, meaning you can complete the course work on your own schedule. They do run week-to-week so a cohort of students can work together, but you can log in any time during the week. There are no live meetings to schedule around, so these classes are ideal for people with unpredictable schedules. Because you can sign on any time during the week to complete your tasks, and because there is no live video conferencing, they are also a good option for people with unreliable Internet access.
