ClassSecond Draft Boot Camp for Novelists
So you've finished a first draft of a novel. Fantastic! But now comes the next phase: editing, a maddening term that encompasses everything from rearranging commas to switching the narrative point of view. Where to begin?
This one-day boot camp, open to anyone who has finished a novel-length work (here defined as 50,000+ words), will give you the equipment and gumption to dive back into your draft. You'll talk about your book as a product, explore productive tangents in writing exercises, and learn to re-interest yourself in your own material. In lectures in the final hour of class, we'll touch on finding first readers, drafting a query letter, and reaching out to agents. You'll emerge with a good sense of what you have done - and what you'll do next.
Please bring a pack of colored index cards, a pen and something to take notes in, and your book in its current form (printed is great, but a laptop is fine too). We'll take a short break mid-session. We'll also extend the networking into an optional meal at a nearby restaurant after class.
