ClassSummer Youth Week Eight - Write UP! Write Away! & More!
Welcome back to in-person writing with Summer Youth @ Mac! Join us for a week of writing and all day creativity with the Loft at Macalester College! We'll spend the week writing, reading, and having fun!
Are you the kind of kid who fills notebooks with story after story? Maybe you have so many ideas in your head you can’t decide which one to write next. Discover how real writers decide––how they pick out what's needed to pull stories together and make a story stronger, so they can write toward the best ending. We’ll check out different ways to explore creativity through a bunch of writing prompts, so you get to write and share some of what you've written in class. We will also talk about how to get past the parts where you’re getting stuck. Whether you're writing fantasy or historical fiction, science fiction or realistic fiction, discover what you need to include and what you need to leave out of your stories. In this session you get to do the kind of writing you *want* to do, not the kind you *have* to do. Find out tips and techniques needed to make readers eager to turn the page. Discover what comes next while writing it UP! This 9am-12pm class for young writers with and designed by Kate St. Vincent Vogl.
We'll break for lunch then finish each day 1pm-4pm with more writing activities with Rachel Guvenc that will inspire us to express ourselves while having fun! Aspiring writers, grab your notebooks and pens, and let’s write at the Loft!
Please bring a packed lunch. Note that proof of vaccination is required, and students are required to wear masks while indoors. This session is for students entering grades 4-6 in the fall!
