Writing Children's Picture Books: For Beginners
Have you ever wanted to write a story for children (either fiction or nonfiction)? This six-session class offers a walk-through of understanding the basics of writing picture books (a 32-page book). We'll walk through formatting your manuscript, understanding word count limits for genres, practicing writing a spread, workshopping and peer-editing your work.
This class will offer insights into how to move your work beyond just a final draft. We'll also learn how to navigate appropriate markets and publishing venues, model and practice writing a pitch letter, or query, to an agent and/or editor, how to submit your work, common mistakes to avoid, and discuss tips and strategies on getting your work published.
Please bring 3-5 picture books you admire (to use as mentor texts), paper, writing utensils and laptop/tablet. By the class end, you will have a plan for your first published book!
