ClassWriting a Great ACT Essay
Are you planning to take the ACT essay? Do you want help scoring higher? Then, this class was created for you. We'll take an in-depth look at the ACT essay, starting with breaking down what the prompt is asking you to do and what test scorers will be looking for. Next, we'll examine each of the three perspectives, focusing on strengths and weaknesses. Through group brainstorming and individual outlining, you'll develop a thesis and a solid structure. Then you'll write your essay within a time limit. Afterward, we'll read example essays so you can see how yours compares and find ways to take advantage of good strategies while avoiding common pitfalls.
All handouts will be provided as pdf files and we'll meet via Zoom online. There will be time for any questions you have and also limited instructor feedback on at least one of your essays. Through practicing, reading samples, and discussion, you'll leave with the confidence and skills you need to do your best on the ACT essay test!
