Mother, Daughter, Witch, Savior
Women in caretaking roles are often burdened with unrealistic expectations and forced into sexist dichotomies. These authors examine the role of caretaker from new angles to expose the nuances beneath.
Carrie Fountain’s poems in The Life explore both the joys and pains of motherhood; Gabriela Garcia’s novel Of Women and Salt focuses on mother-daughter relationships made fraught by history and our current political climate; Kathryn Nuernberger’s essays in The Witch of Eye reveal how witches have been wrongly vilified and acted as caretakers for their communities. These writers challenge the contradictory views of caretaking by representing it with honesty and complexity.
