Volunteer Writer for Senior Memoirs

Are you a writer or writing student interested in volunteering with The Extraordinary History Project? We pair a professional writer volunteer with an elder. They speak over the phone once per week to get to know each other and craft the elder’s life story. When they determine the story has been successfully told, each senior receives a printed copy of their life story. We hope the connection between writer and subject continues well into the future, but that's not required.

We were recently featured in the Star Tribune. https://www.startribune.com/a-novel-way-to-beat-loneliness-pair-up-and-write-a-book-through-extraordinary-history-project/600072140/?fbclid=IwAR0emWQL85W6iSoU116Ke8-5GK_sQDZMnwOyKY9suDay6jTAlwln9yj0HoY

As a result of the article, we've seen an amazing uptick in interested writers and elders hoping to connect with someone to tell their extraordinary stories. Up until now, I've been able to keep up, but now I have more interested seniors than writers to pair them with! Let's work together to help these seniors tell their extraordinary stories!!

The time commitment is about an hour per week to speak with a senior over the phone. If you are so inspired to sign up as a volunteer writer, we'd love to have you on board! Please feel free to share this information with anyone you feel may be interested. Thank you, in advance for your consideration.
