Where does nature start and end? How natural are you? Observing natural patterns and phenomena can help us make meaning of our lives, even in urban spaces. In this writing workshop, we will consider the natural systems and patterns that ripple through our experiences, inscribing them. We’ll look back at well-worn memories to find nature’s role there. Together we will unearth memories, consider the significance of sensory experience and place, and investigate examples of nature inspired poetry and lyric essay.

Particular attention will be paid to the ways writers of color bring layered perspective to this kind of writing. Participants will generate new writing and have a chance to share with other members of the class, if they desire. Open to all writers.

Please submit this request form at least two to three weeks in advance if you have any accessibility requests for this class. This class takes place in-person, at the Loft at Open Book. Please see the Loft’s website for the most up to date information about the Loft’s COVID policies.
