Angel Akurienne

Angel Akurienne is a journalist, screen & playwright with a rich and varied background that spans continents and creative disciplines. Angel’s journey reflects her passion for exploring contrasts in sonder and activism in her storytelling. An alumnus of The American Musical and Dramatic Academy NYC, she integrates her stage expertise with her passions for writing, creative directing, and producing. Her career encompasses two historical Black institutions in the Twin Cities, Penumbra Theater and MN Spokesman Recorder. Angel’s myriad of experiences, both professionally and creatively, have further enriched her storytelling and enhanced her dedication to crafting narratives that challenge monolithic portrayals of Blackness in media across the globe.
