Billy Lezra

Billy Lezra holds an MFA in nonfiction writing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. They have contributed essays to Ploughshares Journal, Electric Literature, The Washington Post, CNN, Huff Post, Business Insider, TODAY, and elsewhere. Their essay "A Salad-Eating Competition" was nominated for Best American Essays. Their work has been supported by Tin House, LAMBDA Literary, the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, and the Los Angeles Review of Books’ Publishing Workshop. They currently serve as the editor-in-chief of Rough Cut Press, a literary magazine that publishes emerging and established queer voices. For five years they facilitated workshops and dialogues in high-schools and universities across the country through the Krishnamurti Educational Center. Their classes are geared toward writers at every level. Writers who engage with liminal experiences such as intergenerational pain, addiction, queerness, illness, recovery, and estrangement, may find value in Billy’s workshop offerings.
