Edil Hassan

Edil Hassan (she/her) is a poet, educator, and author of Dugsi Girl (Akashic Press, 2021) which was selected by Kwame Dawes and Chris Abani for the New Generation of African Poets series. A finalist for the 2022 Brunel International African Poetry Prize, she has received support from Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, and a fellowship from the Vermont Studio Center. Her work has appeared in Poetry magazine, the poem-a-day series by the Academy of American Poets, Guernica, Crazyhorse Journal, and anthologized in The BreakBeat Poets Vol. 3 Halal If You Hear Me (Haymarket Books, 2019). She is a graduate of the MFA at Washington University in St. Louis, where she was the senior poetry fellow teaching beginner and intermediate poetry. She believes that poetry is how we make theory from our lived experiences.
