Kevin Schwandt

Kevin Schwandt is a musicologist and writer living in St. Paul, MN. He teaches writing at Hamline University and Augsburg University, as well as courses in music, culture, and history at the University of Minnesota and Augsburg University. His music research and criticism involves ways marginalized communities find identity and cohesion through contemporary popular music, as well as world music pedagogies and musical negotiations of trauma. Kevin loves helping students find and articulate personal relationships to music through collaborative discussion and creative work. He has also worked as a freelance writing consultant and editor, working with both scholarly and creative writers. Kevin's approach to the classroom is student-directed, fostering a creative community in which individuals' interests drive collective learning.
