Mant Bares

A Cajun Louisiana native, Mant Bares earned her MFA in fiction at the Helen Zell Writers' Program. Her fiction has appeared or is forthcoming in Porter House Review, Fugue, and Beloit Fiction Journal. Her poetry, found under the name Samantha Bares, has most recently appeared in OxMag and is forthcoming in Guesthouse. She has been awarded the Porter House Review Editors' Prize for Fiction, judged by Carmen Maria Machado, the Frederick Busch Prize for Fiction, a Tennessee Williams Scholarship from Sewanee Writers' Conference, and a grant from the Elizabeth George Foundation. She has taught at the University of Michigan and with Adroit Journal and New South Story Lab. Now living in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, Mant is working on a retelling of Longfellow's Evangeline.
