ClassThe Matriarchs: Poets of the Feminist Canon & Writing in Their Wake
We will study some of the greatest feminist poets throughout history, learning from their example, while we also craft our own poems. Drawing from poets of the feminist canon such as Audre Lorde, June Jordan, and Adrienne Rich, we will harness the power of poetry for social change.
Students can expect to do close readings of poems, analyze them in group discussion, and draft your own poems with the opportunity to share and discuss them with the class.
Class time will be split evenly between diving deeply into the work of feminist poets, putting their work into context of the historical and social time periods they were active, and writing your own poems through prompts generated from these poet matriarchs. There is no required reading ahead of the class.
All Classes listed on the Loft website take place in Central Time.
