ClassStorytelling (for ages 6 to 8)
Welcome to the Loft's Summer Youth program at Open Book! Join us for 4 days of writing and creativity!
SESSION 1:
WORDS CAN CREATE MAGIC
(with Taiwana Shambley)
Writers are like gardeners. They plant seeds to create magic with words and grow stories from their imaginations. You will begin your garden in your journal. Peter will give you prompts and exercises to help you find your very own writing style. Then you will watch your words bloom as you explore different writing methods, telling stories with poetry, writing about real-life adventures, and spinning your own creative tales. Bring your best ideas, turn them loose on the page, and let your writing surprise you.
LUNCH & ENRICHMENT:
We'll break for lunch with more activities that will inspire us to express ourselves while having fun! We may explore Gold Medal Park to seek creativity outside the classroom! Please bring a packed lunch.
SESSION 2:
HELP! I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO WRITE!
(with Holly Day)
Did you ever sit down to write a story and realize you have no idea how to start? In this class, we'll talk about dozens of ways writers get their creative engines moving, from exercises in basic character formation and development to creating vivid scenes and scenarios for your characters to live in. By the time this class is over, you'll know how to start writing and keep writing.
Aspiring writers, grab your paper and pens, and let’s write at the Loft!
