Welcome back to Summer Youth at Open Book! Join us for a week of writing and all day creativity!

Young people are ready and eager to start changing the world. Especially right now in the United States. Issues around climate, criminal injustice, global conflicts, etc. are all at the forefront of our minds and we want to speak out! The political climate is hot and a lot of us are wondering about how do you use writing to make social change? In this class we explore personal essays, op-eds, writing like a reporter, and explore how we can use our voice to persuade others to join our cause, invite our readers in, and rally our supporters. During this class, students will work through creating one strong piece of work on an issue they care deeply about in a room with other young creative changemakers working as a collective. Any student that feels confident in their piece and would like it published will be included in a digital anthology of the groups work. That anthology will be hosted on The Believe in What's Possible website, a youth-led nonpartisan nonprofit working to reveal, center, and support youth leadership in Minnesota’s political processes, as well as on The Loft's blog.
