Please join us for a series of book club events where we will discuss select titles and the different themes they explore by some of the renowned authors featured at the Loft this fall! Come even if you haven’t read the book!

For our first book club, join the Loft’s Executive and Artistic Director, Arleta Little, to discuss the 2025 McKnight Judge in Creative Prose Valeria Luiselli's Tell Me How It Ends: An Essay in 40 Questions (Coffee House Press, 2017):

"Structured around the forty questions Luiselli translates and asks undocumented Latin-American children facing deportation, Tell Me How It Ends (an expansion of her 2016 Freeman's essay of the same name) humanizes these young migrants and highlights the contradiction of the idea of America as a fiction for immigrants with the reality of racism and fear--both here and back home."

Copies of Tell Me How It Ends are available for purchase at Milkweed Books, located on the first floor of Open Book, so pick up a copy the next time you are at Open Book and join us on Sept. 6th for this vital discussion! Light refreshments will be provided.

Then come back to Open Book for Valeria Luiselli’s reading on Oct. 24th!

Our next Loft Book Club will be on Nov. 5th, where we will discuss Hieu Minh Nguyen’s second poetry collection, Not Here (Coffee House Press, 2018).
