I wrote a book! Yay!
Hello peoples!
My name is Tsitsi Michelle Zawaira. I wrote a book, one that was a pain in my neck but deeply fulfilling. A book that I am hoping will serve a greater purpose in all the ways it can. The book is called Unzip My Skin and it is a bold, reflective collection of essays where I unpack the very real, often very confusing experiences of being both African and Black in America. I explore the concept of power through my eyes as a Zimbabwean immigrant woman navigating life in a space that often demands one to straddle multiple identities. These essays are a peak into the fragmented aspects of my experience with power (in all its multiple forms) and the profound emotional toll of it all. I wrote this book exploring both the unbridled black joy and cultural alienation I have felt and how that toll manifests itself in my life.
In Unzip My Skin, I give voice to that emotional toll, capturing the nuanced, ever-evolving journey of embodying African-ness and Blackness with grit and grace. Through this work, readers are invited to behold a reclamation of what it means to think, to feel, to heal, and to unapologetically wear this African-Black skin. I hope you are able to check this book out, its available on Barnes & Noble, Amazon, etc. You could check out more on my website too, the link is below for details.
Thank you for your energy and your time!
With giddy sincerity,
Tsitsi Michelle Zawaira
