How long have you been an agent, and what did your career path look like?
I'm a new agent, going into my second year of agenting! How I got here? A bachelor's specialist degree in English from the University of Toronto and a master's in English: issues in modern culture from University College London, UK. I interned and was PS Literary's agency relations assistant before I was brought on as one of their agents.
What's your favorite part of your job?
There are so many favorites! I particularly love working with new creators to shape their projects into exciting submissions! I also enjoy seeing my MSWL tweets translate into very specific queries that match my tastes—I so much appreciate the opportunity to see titles that are within my editorial wheelhouse.
What do you look for in an author to potentially represent?
I look for editorial skill in the creators I consider representing. I want to feel confident that our working relationship/collaboration will be productive and mutually enriching.
What do you look for in a project to potentially represent?
When considering a project for representation, I am considering the creator’s thought process: Have they given thought to the audience? Have they researched their book competition? Is the project offering a fresh take?
