Amparo Gonzalez

Amparo Gonzalez is the mother of three girls and grandmother of five beautiful children.

Her family moved to the United States about 23 years ago, where they encountered a diverse society distant from their homogeneous one. She had an enriching experience working as a bilingual translator and a family outreach coordinator in the ESOL Program at a school district in Florida. Her desire to go beyond her duties led her to write five workshops for parents to support their children; she was honored by two awards from Pinellas County Sheriff Office and Verizon as a local hero for her Tips to Prevent Child Abuse workshop presentations.

She taught Spanish online at four high schools in the state of Oklahoma, where she learned to understand teenagers better. Her teaching experience for adults was inspiring, too.

Her knowledge in business administration helped her to start her business, translationsintospanish.com, and support her husband with his photography business. She is the founder and director of elamparofoundation.org, created in 2008, and creator of bilingualbrainblog.com. She has also had subtle approaches to performing arts through an interesting project named ¿Qué?, created by her daughter to reinforce a second language acquisition.

Kids’ Awesome Decisions is the first book written by her and her niece, Natalie Luengas. It was written for children to enjoy reading as well as to support safe and healthy students and to promote immersion, ELL, ESOL, ESL, and dual language programs.

Reading has been a fascinating friend of her mind, and burying herself in novels, philosophy, nonfiction stories, and magic realism written by gifted authors such as José Saramago, Gabriel Garcia Marques, J. Krishnamurti, B. Spinoza, Isabel Allende, and other excellent writers has given her a lot of moments of joyfulness.

She is a strong believer of a better society through individual ethical actions.
