Cheri Johnson

Cheri Johnson has won fellowships and residencies in fiction from the McKnight Foundation, the Bush Foundation, Yaddo, and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. Her novel Annika Rose won the 2022 Women’s Prose Prize from Red Hen Press and will be published in the spring of 2024. 

Cheri studied writing at Augsburg University and Hollins University and has an MFA in fiction from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. She’s taught creative writing at Augsburg University, the University of Minnesota, and the Loft and has worked as a freelance copyeditor and proofreader for Capstone Press, Epic Press, and North Star Editions. Her fiction, poetry, reviews, and literary biographies have been included in such publications as Glimmer Train Stories, New South, Puerto del Sol, Pleiades, The Rio Grande Review, Provincetown Arts, and the American Writers Supplement. She’s also written two series of nonfiction books for young readers for Full Tilt Press. Recently, she collaborated with the composer Julie Johnson, the filmmaker D.J. Mendel, and the new music ensemble Zeitgeist to create the literary performance project Crocus Hill: A Ghost Story, which was supported by the Knight Foundation. Publisher’s Weekly called her 2022 literary mystery The Girl in Duluth, published under the name Sigrid Brown, “an affecting debut,” and her work has also been favorably reviewed by School Library Journal and Booklist.
