Shama Shams
Shama Shams is an author, educator, and storyteller dedicated to elevating voices and narratives that are too often silenced. Her memoir, She Called Me Throwaway, received the Top Choice Award from Next Best Read along with multiple honorable mentions for its emotional resonance and craft. Her forthcoming book, Dreamers, continues her exploration of identity, immigration, family truth-telling, and the lingering impact of generational silence. As a sought-after instructor, Shama teaches at Hugo House, North Seattle College, Edmonds College, and at workshops and conferences across the country, guiding writers through memoir, personal narrative, and healing-centered writing practices. An immigrant and survivor with a long career in the nonprofit sector, she brings a trauma-informed, culturally responsive approach to every classroom, helping writers reclaim their voice and write with courage, clarity, and agency.
