Suzanne Ondrus

Suzanne Ondrus' poetry book, Passion Seeds, won the 2013 Vernice Quebodeaux Prize. She was Gordon Square Review’s 2022 runner up for prose, the 2013 Reed Magazine Markham Poetry Prize winner, a 2017 featured UNESCO World Book Capital poet in Guinea, and a 2018-2020 Fulbright Scholar to Burkina Faso. Her work delves into love, desire, different cultures, history, racism, and women’s sexuality. Her recent poetry book, Death of an Unvirtuous Woman, examines domestic violence in an 1881 Ohio German immigrant couple and was performed at Cleveland Public Theater’s Pandemonium. Her poems have appeared in Slab, Long River Review, Frigg, Colere, JENDA, Route7, CV2, Visitant, and S/tick. Active learning is central to enjoyment. Suzanne brings high energy and enthusiasm. She believes that a personal connection is the best motivator because it directly interests and engages students. She accesses what topics interest her students and structures prompts and assignments according to their interests.
