ClassStriking Satires for Social Change with Collaborative Writing
Through flipping reality you will write with intelligent mocking humor to critique current political and social problems of your choice.
Art can lead to social change. Do you want to help make our country and world better? Do you want to get people to think about current problems? Not many people want to read critical articles on today’s problems, but many enjoy a good laugh. This form is rarely taught nowadays but we need it now more than ever! For any level.
This 4-hour class will include group writing. Groups will be made according to topics of interest to participants. Suggested satirical forms: plays, poems, tourist ads, proposals, essays, and fiction. You will walk away with two drafts, exposure to provocative contemporary and historic satires, and new collaborative partners.
Online texts we'll look at:
Why I Want a Wife by Judy Brady
How to Write About Africa by Binyavanga Wainaina
A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift and
The War Prayer by Mark Twain
All classes listed on the Loft website take place in Central Time.
