Class4-Week: Necrofemme–Queering Horror for Queer and Trans Writers
Necrofemme: Queering Horror will explore how to restructure horror storytelling from the perspective of the other. Specifically, we will examine queer narratives in horror and discuss craft techniques in these narratives. We will spend time with fiction, poetry, and essays as we work to build a knowledge base from which to write. Students will be invited to explore their own identities in horror through short lectures, in-class discussions, writing exercises, and direct feedback.
All readings will be provided in class. The first four weeks will be spent exploring queerness in horror through various lenses. The last two weeks will be spent on a multitude of different writing exercises with the chance to receive direct feedback on a short story or project.
The Loft’s Queer Writers Class Series a space for LGBTQIA+ readers, writers, and creators in Minnesota and beyond. This series aims to celebrate and elevate the voices of LGBTQIA+ individuals by crafting stories and building community, fostering meaningful connections, and enriching their lives through literature. These classes cover the issues and traditions of queer writers and are intended for queer writers to work on their craft in a space that centers them and their work.
Minnesota human rights laws prevent the exclusion of anyone based on their identity. If you are not a queer writer or reader, please be mindful of the space and energy you take up in a group intended to uplift traditionally marginalized and silenced communities. Anyone being disruptive may be asked to leave.
