Class6-Week Workshop: Finessing Historical Fiction
Research may be the backbone of nonfiction, but it also adds depth, detail and accuracy to fiction. Author Rachel Werner will share the tools and strategies writers need to dig into research with confidence. Whether you’re writing for to traditionally publish; the educational market; or lit magazines, understanding how to conduct and organize your research matters. What sources should be used to make a historical setting or rendering read more true than false? What sort of strategic and culturally-sensitive research is necessary to discover (and verify) factual information about the time and/or place you've chosen? Using visual outlining tools, participants will brainstorm—then draft and revise—a short story (or a chapter from a WIP) in a historical setting.
