ClassCreative Maps for Creative Writing
The cartographer’s map lures us into other worlds, but what about our own creative worlds and ideas? In this session, we’ll explore how creative maps can transform ideas into visual aids that give more ease—and fun!—to our writing processes.
We will look at examples of writer's maps from other creative writing students, writers Neil Gaiman and Pier Torday, journalist Katie Davis, and artists such as Michael Druks and Julie Mehretu. We will then spend time learning about and crafting two different creative maps and building these tools into our writing journeys.
The creative process can leave us tired at times, and sometimes we just need to create for creation’s sake. Whether you feel inspired or tired, this class will keep your creative fire lit. Please obtain colored pencils, crayons, or markers; blank paper; and your favorite handwriting utensils for our class meeting.
