ClassFiction by Fury: Building Stories through Moments of Conflict (for Ages 15 to 18)
Welcome back to Summer Youth at the Loft! We'll spend the week writing, reading, and building community.
Fiction unfolds moment by moment through emotional and physical conflict. The secret told, the duel lost, the prophecy foretold. Those moments define our stories and can make or break our relationship with an audience. They are informed by the living world around us. Deepened by our personal identities. They are the core of our stories. But how are they created?
In Fiction by Fury, we'll examine the highs and lows of long and short-form fictional conflict through various writing exercises. We'll inspect the lies characters weave, the murderous plots they chase, and the hopes they hinge their futures upon. We'll enter the battlefield as writer, squire, scribe, investigator, and narrator.
Come to class prepared to write, read, discuss, and write more. Over the course of this class, you will produce your own fictional world and a short story set in that world based on our class discussions and prompts. Together, we'll craft conflict that enhances our world and our writing.
Above all, this class is a welcoming space for new or seasoned writers looking to immerse in the craft of fiction.
Aspiring writers, grab your notebooks and pens, and let’s write at the Loft!
