Fiction Writing Jumpstart for the New Year

Jumpstart your writing this new year in a fast-paced and playful generative class that will get your creativity flowing.

If you’ve been uninspired in your creativity lately, feel like your work could use a jolt, or just want to give yourself dedicated writing time, this three-hour writing session is structured to encourage creativity and playfulness without your inner editor. A range of writing prompts, short reading selections, and in-class writing time will introduce participants to different craft techniques and story structures intended to amp up your inspiration and get the words moving.

Participants will try out different approaches and styles of writing in a low-stakes and fun atmosphere. Please note: this is a generative class only; participants will not be reading or submitting work for feedback.

The class readings will incorporate a variety of fiction excerpts—from realism to the uncanny to the weird—and will include excerpts from writers as wide ranging as Kelly Link, Don Delillo, Ananda Lima, Angela Carter, Jamaica Kincaid, Corey Farrenkopf, Julio Cortazar, Justin Torres, Nicholas Claro, and Amelia Gray.

Instructions for Accessing This Online Class

In order to access live class meetings, you must have the Zoom application downloaded to your computer. You will also need a WiFi/Internet connection throughout the duration of your scheduled meeting and a computer with audio and video capability.
