Creative Process with Brain

A successful writer needs a process to stay productive and focused on their writing project. A writer has an almost endless range of choices about how to begin, sustain, review, revise, and finish their writing. This class assumes there's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach. Each writer needs a process that fits their temperament, skills, goals, and needs.

During this 4-hour class, we'll discuss and practice various stages involved in producing good writing, then consider the sequence of stages that works best for each of you. Some writers move immediately to drafting; some outline or plan meticulously first. Some begin by clarifying their intentions for their work—what they hope to achieve. Others examine, even before drafting, the different ideas or concepts they want to explore. And some tailor their process to the specific genre, subject, and goal of each piece.

During class you'll get a chance to experiment with various steps, then discuss how to arrange them to create a process that works best for you. Our goal isn't to finish a piece but to give you a clearer sense of a process that would be effective for you.
