ClassHaving Fun with Fiction
Maybe you’re afraid to call yourself a writer. Maybe you wrote a lot when you were younger, but as school, work, and life got in the way you no longer had the time. Maybe you haven’t written in weeks, months, years. This class is all about embracing your curiosity and unique creativity and doing it anyway. Learn how to move past the fear towards imagination and expression. Together, we will get back to the magic and enjoyment of storytelling by taking the pressure off perfection and thinking outside the box. Class will be an encouraging environment where you feel safe to play around and take risks.
You will generate new writing, guided by excerpts and strategies from writers such as Carmen Maria Machado, Sonya Walger, Ella Frears, Lucy Ives, and Venita Blackburn.
There are so many ways to tell a story. Let’s find yours.
In this class, students will:
-generate at least 1-2 pages of new writing (more is welcome!)
-reframe writing into a practice/routine that feels manageable and enjoyable
-understand new, diverse, and compelling ways to tell stories
-practice generating your own prompts to use in your spare time
All Classes listed on the Loft website take place in Central Time.
