ClassNature Writing (for Ages 15 to 18)
Welcome back to Summer Youth at the Loft! We'll spend the week writing, reading, and building community.
Explore the centuries-long connection between the human and the natural world in “Nature Writing.”
For ages, nature has been an access point for the writer. Never has there been a more important time for the writer to communicate with the natural world. Whether an act of protest, or an adoration of the beauty around us, the world needs writers to center nature.
In this class, we will read both classic and contemporary voices (Mary Oliver, Ada Limon, Aimee Nezhukumatathil, Matthew Olzmann, Nickole Brown and more), discuss the current climate crisis, and write our own creative pieces. Most importantly, we will be getting outside!
Expect to bring gear (rain or shine) to sit outside and be with nature for a moment. We will listen to the world’s noises, open our senses, and respond with our hearts.
All reading and writing supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring a personal notebook!
Aspiring writers, grab your notebooks and pens, and let’s write at the Loft!
