ClassUnlocking Creative Flow
The creative process is a physical act of the body as well as an act of the mind. Using meditation and writing exercises, students will come away with new approaches to writing craft. Meditation helps ground us in our bodies so we are able to focus on the ideas we have or find the ideas we are looking for.
Some writing exercises use group activities while others are done alone. Exercises play with the physical materials we write on, the audience we write to, and the spaces we use for writing. Exercises are designed to introduce playfulness and thoughtfulness and spur improvisation and experimentation. Students have a chance to share some of the writing they do in class but are not under pressure to do so. Students can expect to surprise themselves, have fun, generate new writing, and leave with new tools for their writing process. This class is well suited to writers of poetry or prose who are looking to start a writing practice or who sometimes get stuck in the writing process.
