ClassWorldbuilding: The Keys to Writing Immersive Setting
Building an immersive setting allows the reader to feel they are stepping out of their world and into the world of your story. That is true whether you’re writing fantasy, romance, historical fiction or anything in between.
Setting and place are a collection of details—the right details in the right amount—that will captivate readers. We'll discuss how to make the setting a natural extension of your characters and how to choose the right descriptive details, and there will be writing prompts so you can put this into practice, though we won't be offering feedback on your writing. There will be excerpts of published works for additional discussion.
You'll learn how to immerse the reader in the world of your story through sensory images, emotional connection, and word choices—and that's just for starters. During this class, you will:
--gain an understanding of successful, vivid description;
--learn the magic of precise, concrete details;
--learn how to use setting to move your story forward;
--understand how description affects atmosphere, mood, and tone.
All Classes listed on the Loft website take place in Central Time.
