ClassWriting About the Hard Stuff
Why are certain things hard to write about? And what specifically makes them hard? Is it our own personal narrative or judgment about the hard stuff that make certain topics off limits? Are we afraid of what we might find? And what happens if we ignore it? Where does the hard stuff live within the writer’s heart? How much are you ultimately holding back, both on and off the page and how does this affect your voice as a writer? But what happens if we actually decide to look at the hard stuff more closely and write it out?
Safely, with support, at your own pace, you are invited to explore this all too familiar elephant in every writer’s room and decide how you would like to write about the hard stuff moving forward or if you have to at all. We’ll go back in time to gently recover lost and fragmented parts of self and how and where to integrate these findings into your memoir, poetry, or fiction and/or entirely new works with depth and vitality.
Through in class sharing and writing, you will discover the power and universality of your own vulnerability and experience how naming/writing and sharing the hard stuff liberates you from your own suffering, allowing you to safely return to the stories you may have discounted, forgotten about, or left behind at a time when they felt too overwhelming.
All classes listed on the Loft website take place in Central Time.
