Writing Gen X: Voices from the Forgotten Generation

Let's face it, Gen X: We have something to say, strong opinions, stories to write about neon nights, latchkey days, and our upbringing in the heart of New Wave, PacMan, and the New Age. Our words, however, feel stuck in some unreachable Land of the Lost within, buried beneath a narrative we've bought into about your “whatever generation.” Our writing voice can be faint and elusive, even a stranger to ourselves; we question our purpose, what and how we write.

While Gen X grew up muted, fearful of taking up external space, our internal world was vast, sensory, creative, and private. How do we turn up the volume on that vital inner knowing we are so intimate with and set it free on the page to say what we really need to say? How do we get back to the stories we want to write, embody the voice inside that went missing so long ago?

This class invites Gen X'ers to a rejuvenating day of writing and sharing =truth, memories, moments, and reclaiming voice of innocence while exploring how the subtle, outright, and unspoken norms of our generation shaped our consciousness and writing process.

We’ll write ourselves back to analog days, childhood, meeting ourselves on the page to reclaim our lost voice in the places and moments where we left it behind, gain clarity and spark, while delighting in the life-giving details that sustained us and bring them to life on the page.

Instructions for Accessing This Online Class

In order to access live class meetings, you must have the Zoom application downloaded to your computer. You will also need a WiFi/Internet connection throughout the duration of your scheduled meeting and a computer with audio and video capability.
