A Writing Group for LGBTQIA+ Writers

Let’s gather the whole alphabet! This writing group for LGBTQIA+ writers is designed to create a brave, encouraging community where everyone feels safe to talk about and/or share their writing.

Each session begins with a check in and optional accountability goal sharing. Then we’ll get focused with a fun warm-up prompt, followed by open writing time. For those in need of more structure, guided prompts will be available. We’ll end each session with a “how’d it go?” check out and optional sharing. All genres and writing levels are welcome!

In a late spring “Literary Activism” newsletter from Book Riot, Danika Ellis wrote “it’s clear that five years of unrelenting and escalating censorship has brought us to a breaking point. It’s not sustainable for authors, librarians, and teachers to endure years of anti-LGBTQ abuse. … Authors and editors also described self-censoring—some have stopped writing or editing queer books in anticipation of them being challenged.”

Throughout history queer and trans people have found strength in community. Q&T Voices: a writing group for LGBTQIA+ Writers is intended to be just that. Together we can keep each other writing—and confident in the belief that our stories matter.

This class will:
-create a safe, supportive writing community where people can share specific struggles and/or triumphs as LGBTQIAP+ writers.
-help writers achieve their goals by providing a regular time each week to write.
-help LGBTQIA+ writers find accountability buddies and meet peers who would like to exchange feedback on their writing.

All Classes listed on the Loft website take place in Central Time.

Instructions for Accessing This Online Class

In order to access live class meetings, you must have the Zoom application downloaded to your computer. You will also need a WiFi/Internet connection throughout the duration of your scheduled meeting and a computer with audio and video capability. The information to join your Zoom classroom will be provided in your confirmation email upon registration. Please check spam folders if you do not see this email upon registration. Some classes use a supplemental Google Classroom page. Should your teaching artist use Google Classroom, you will be invited to join the classroom via email at least 24 hours in advance of your class (check spam folders if you are not seeing this invitation). Please note that Google Classroom requires a Gmail address to access the Classroom. If you do not have a Gmail account, the email invitation will be sent to the email address we have on file and will prompt you to create a free account or enter an existing account to join the classroom. If we are unable to send an email invitation to your non-gmail account, you will be contacted by a staff member to provide a Gmail address.
